The following extracts from the National Curriculum illustrate some possible curriculum links that could be made with the water resource.
ICT
Key Stage 2: Developing ideas and making things happen
Pupils should be taught:
- How to develop and refine ideas by bringing together, organising and reorganising text, tables, images and sound as appropriate for example, desktop publishing, multimedia presentations
Key Stage 3: Exchanging and sharing information
Pupils should be taught:
- how to interpret information and to reorganise and present it in a variety of forms that are fit for purpose for example, information about a charitable cause presented in a leaflet for a school fundraising event
- to use a range of ICT tools efficiently to draft, bring together and refine information and create good-quality presentations in a form that is sensitive to the needs of particular audiences and suits the information content
- how to use ICT, including email, to share and exchange information effectively for example, web publishing, video conferencing.
Science
Key Stage 2 & 3:
During the key stage, pupils should be taught the Knowledge, skills and understanding through:
- a range of domestic and environmental contexts that are familiar and of interest to them
- looking at the part science has played in the development of many useful things
- using a range of sources of information and data, including ICT-based sources
- using first-hand and secondary data to carry out a range of scientific investigations, including complete investigations.
Geography
Key Stage 3:
How and why weather and climate vary, including:
- the differences between 'weather' and 'climate'
- the components and links in the water cycle
- how and why aspects of weather and climate vary from place to place
PSHE
Key Stage 2: Preparing to play an active role as citizens
Pupils should be taught:
- to research, discuss and debate topical issues, problems and events
- that resources can be allocated in different ways and that these economic choices affect individuals, communities and the sustainability of the environment.
Citizenship
Key Stage 3: Developing skills of enquiry and communication
Pupils should be taught to:
- think about topical political, spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues, problems and events by analysing information and its sources, including ICT-based sources
